Red Rock Sunrise Panorama 8

Red Rock Sunrise Panorama, originally uploaded by imarealgeek.

I’m trying to get back into the swing of that whole photography thing. I haven’t taken the time to shoot much more than my kids, but hopefully that will change…

End of an Era 0

I finally decided to sell my old film body, a Canon EOS Elan 7e. I was keeping it around in case — well, I don’t even know anymore. I mean, who am I kidding? I haven’t touched film in years now. Before I took the pictures, I removed an old roll of ISO 100 that had probably been in there for 3 years, minimum.

If anyone wants to be an “artist”, you could pick up a great film body! 😉

You’re free! 2

The Sigma DP1 has finally been released! Unfortunately, with a quoted list price of $1090 (although B&H is carrying it for $799), it takes more of a primary position, rather than the go-anywhere companion to a DSLR that I was hoping for. And the sample gallery isn’t really as impressive as I was hoping either.

So here’s to a disappointed hopeful.

The Crusades 1

In this eBay listing for a Canon 10D digital SLR, the seller mentions that he’s “upgrading” to a Nikon system. Would it be rude to send him a message asking him to correct his description to “downgrading”? 😉

Run ’em up! 1

This past Sunday (the 11th) was the Aviation Nation air-show at Nellis Air Force Base. According to my wife, I’d been looking forward to this year’s show ever since, well, last year’s. I was hoping to have a new camera and/or a teleconverter to spice up my photography a bit, but, unfortunately, that was not to be (and is a sad, sad tale for another time). Instead, I visited with my (now nearly 7 years old!.. recent photography conscripts don’t even know this thing existed) Canon D30 and (primarily) EF 200mm/2.8L (~320mm effective).

Wireless Cards 2

The days of inserting a memory card into a memory card reader might be over. Instead, allow the Eye-Fi SD combined-memory and Wifi card do the legwork for you. When your computer is on, the Eye-Fi can automatically upload your pictures not only to your PC, but to the web.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a camera that takes an SD card. What do you think the chances are that this will work in an SD to CF converter?

A big small camera 3

Sigma is releasing the DP1, a compact camera with a “full-scale sensor” (about 7-12x larger than most compact digitals), a 28mm (equivalent) F/4 prime lens, shutter and aperture priority or manual exposure control, and a 2.5″ LCD.

I want that in my pocket now, not later.
