Red Rock Sunrise Panorama
I’m trying to get back into the swing of that whole photography thing. I haven’t taken the time to shoot much more than my kids, but hopefully that will change…

Darn you and your amazing photos! 😉
I see you used hugin… I’ll have to check that out. I’ve been thinking about doing some panoramas for a while.
It’s kind of funny, I have a mental image of you in Las Vegas and thus being on “the strip,” about as urban as it can possibly get. Good to know there’s still lots of wide-open space!
Vegas really has an amazing amount of wilderness within a reasonable distance. More than I think I even know at this point. I took this picture out near Red Rock Canyon, about 20-30 minutes from our house, which has plenty of trails for hiking or biking, and lots of rock climbing. But then there’s Lake Mead about an hour the other direction, Valley of Fire about an hour and a half to the north-east, Zion National Park about 3 hours out, with Bryce about 2 more hours from there, or even the Grand Canyon anywhere between 3-8 hours (depending on the side).
Oh, and hugin has worked out really well so far. Took a while to compile (darn Gentoo!), but I’m more than pleased with the results. And it’s free!
I love Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Mrs T and I took a ride out there when we were in Vegas a couple of years ago. I’d go again in a heartbeat.
A second panorama also from this morning, but slightly earlier (and wider).
That was before the perfect lighting came up, though.
I just added you as a friend on Flickr.
As long as I’m leaving a bunch of comments…
Looking at this again, I just found myself thinking about the optimal spot in the picture to mount a repeater. I think you’d get excellent coverage!
