Deblurification

I stumbled across this quite by accident today: Invertible Motion Blur in Video. It has all the trappings of a really boring academic/scientific paper, but if you can get beyond it, it’s a really neat read. If you take a series of photos of something with motion blur, and vary the exposure time with each shot, you can use the method they describe to construct an image without the blur. Neat stuff!

For a more practical implication, if you can sample a sensor on a “real” camera quickly enough, couldn’t you use this when panning to supplement optical image stabilization? I suppose it could be disastrous if used inappropriately, but I think there’s a strong use case.
