Weekend Tech Deals

A handful of good deals this weekend, too:

  • Acer 23″ LCD, 1920×1080, $220. I was actually ogling this same one at Newegg, where it’s $10 more. It has stellar reviews at Newegg. If you’re just looking for a new LCD, Staples has an 18.5″ for $99.98, though it’s only 1360 x 768. (It’s considerably more at Newegg, and has no reviews.) Or, a ridiculous deal, a 22″ Acer for $49.99, though it’s hopelessly backordered. I paid the $14.99 shipping and it’s expected in stock between 3/14 and 3/28. I don’t have high hopes for this actually being delivered, however; seems like it’s an outlet close-out, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to order more.
  • I could use bigger hard drives all around. Notebook SATA drives? Staples has a 250GB 2.5″ SATA disk for $70, albeit only 5400 RPM. $10 more gets a 320GB notebook drive, though also 5400 RPM. Or hit up Best Buy for the granddaddy of ’em all, a 500 GB notebook drive, $125.
  • Staples has the HP Mini Notebook for $300.

  1. I picked up the last of a sale at Costco, a 23.5″ Viewsonic at 1920×1080. That’s a freaking insane resolution. I’m also waiting to see if BestBuy honors my 22″ purchase for $50.

  2. I think I picked up that same monitor… I was very dissapointed. It said it had sound and speakers on it, but I was unable to get them to function at all.

  3. Don’t you have a nice set of real speakers? Granted, the monitor should deliver what it advertises, but I wouldn’t ever expect good sound out of a computer monitor. I just use it as a straight monitor, and am pretty impressed. Text isn’t quite as crisp as on the MBP’s internal LCD, but still, it’s slick. And the resolution is huge.

  4. No, you’re right, I have a very nice set of surround sound speakers. But I didn’t have them with me the weekend I bought the monitor, and I was EXPECTING speakers because thats what was advertised. It’s not about the utility, it’s about delivering what was promised. Similiarly, when I bought the TV for our appartment, the advertisement said 4 HDMI connectors, and there were only 3. Do I need 4? Probably not. Would 4 be nice? Definitely. TV, 360, PS3, then one for a CPU connection (in the front), but instead, I need to connect a wire in the front, which looks terrible as a permanent connection, etc. I just want to obtain what I think I’m purchasing based on the information I’ve been given, I really don’t think that it’s too much to ask.
