Many people seem to bother about the look of the Lenovo x200 and I find it pretty amusing. Serious users need a fast and reliable machine, the Lenovo x200 is a beautiful piece of engineering and is extremely fast and lightweight. I have a 7454-CTO with a P8700, 3gig of ram and 128gig Solid state drive and it is fast as hell. I am doing a lot of development and I would warmly recommend that machine for people who are serious about quality, speed and reliability for others look on the mac side ;)

Personally, I find the TrackPoint (the nub) to be easier to use than the trackpad. You don't have to move your fingers off of the keyboard to use it!

However, I know that it's definitely a personal preference; if you can, try finding a notebook with the nub and disable the trackpad. Use it for a few days and see if you like it!

Thanks, great review!!!

I too am thinking about purchasing this laptop. However, my only concern is about the lack of a trackpad.
I've used these pressure-nubs or whateer they are called in the past on Thinkpads, but they, at least, always had a trackpad incase I needed it.

I was wondering if you ever feel frustrated not having a trackpad at all, or are you completely OK with the little nub?

The write speeds are slower (noticeably, but not horrible). It definitely takes longer to install programs than it did on my older HDD-equipped machines.

I can only surmise that your project starts with Hack and ends in -intosh. :)

I was wondering how you had the photos so well-lit! ;) Looks like a quite spiffy machine, and what a bargain you got!

I've read that most SSDs are horribly slow at writes; it's more complex but that's basically how it works out. Is this consistent with your experience?

I'll have to update you soon on *my* laptop project. It's something you did back in college with your T60, and wireless networking didn't work then. But that was several release ago. I just need to find my old 60GB drive to install it on.
